    From 8:00am to 3:00pm

Autism Society Northwestern Pennsylvania is pleased to announce Jed Baker, Ph.D. as the keynote speaker. Dr. Baker will be presenting “Managing Frustration and Anxiety and Teaching Social Skills.” Dr. Baker is the director of the Social Skills Training Project, an organization serving individuals with autism and social communication problems. He is an award winning author of nine (9) books spanning a wide range of topics related to autism, including Preparing for Life: The Complete Handbook for the Transition to Adulthood for Those with Autism and Aspergers Syndrome; No More Meltdowns: Positive Strategies for Managing and Preventing Out-of-Control Behavior; No More Victims: Protecting those with Autism from Cyber Bullying, Internet Predators & Scams; and Overcoming Anxiety in Children and Teens. His work has also been featured on ABC World News, Nightline, Fox News, the CBS Early Show, and the Discovery Health Channel. Students with ASD, ADHD, anxiety, mood disorders, and learning challenges often present with difficulty regulating feelings. This workshop describes how caregivers can best think about difficult moments with children and teens in order to achieve better outcomes. The first half of the presentation describes how to create prevention plans to reduce debilitating anxiety and frustration. The second part of the presentation details strategies to motivate students to learn, ways to teach social skills, how to generalize skills into the natural setting and increase acceptance and tolerance from peers. Cost is $20 per person (pre-registration includes conference and boxed lunch) by October 17, 2017. Free qualified, trained child care and supervised teen room available on-site. Pre-registration required.
