  • LLS Light The Night Walk In Memory of Sonata
    From 5:30pm to 10:00pm

We are walking and working towards a cure because on March 29, 2017, at the age of 20, Sonata "Sonny" Belle Greishaw lost an almost 18 month battle with Acute Myloid Leukemia. She endured many rounds of chemotherapy, participated in clinical trials, and was blessed to have a bone marrow transplant in May 2016. Her case was one that makes standard treatment options very tricky because she had a gene mutation, referred to as FLT3, that protected the leukemia cells in her blood and made her resistant to chemotherapy. She was honored to be able to receive some of the world's best treatment through Emory University Hospital; a research based teaching hospital located in Atlanta, GA. (Thank you 6E nurses especially.) Sonny was an amazing and vibrant young woman with a servant's heart. True to her character, she did not let her diagnosis stop her by any means. She continued to be a positive beacon of strength and took her situation as an opportunity to help others. Not only did she support other patients by donating gifts, time, money and her very own hair; she helped to organize two teams to participate in the 2016 Light the Night Walk Events; one in Erie,PA and one in Atlanta, GA. I am asking you to please consider being a corporate/personal sponsor for the 2017 Light the Night Walk in Erie, PA. Donations can be made securely by going to http://pages.lightthenight.org/wpa/ErieCo17/sonnyssunshine. We have all been touched by cancer of some form. No kind is easier to deal with than the next, but Sonny's treatment and ability to participate in clinical trials are examples of the importance of dedicated research teams to help cultivate individual treatments that work. Without your time and generosity blood cancer will continue to have the upper hand. Together we can make a difference and show cancer that WE are in control!! Without your efforts LLS could not fund the research of such treatments as targeted therapies that zero in on cancer cells and kill them or immunotherapy drugs that use a patient's own immune system to kill cancer. Please join our team's effort today by registering to walk or by making a donation. Your participation in the Light The Night Walk will save lives not someday, but today. Thank you for bringing us all closer to living in a world without blood cancers! Please feel free to contact Kara Onorato at (814) 602-5297 with any questions, to request sponsorship information or to obtain an address to mail a donation check.
