    From 9:00am to 11:00am

(Rain or shine. Meet in the parking lot. Yes, you will wear clothes the entire time! Wear appropriate clothing, walking or hiking shoes; rain jacket and umbrella if needed. Bring water, snack and a journal. Maybe bug repellent. No soap needed! You will be cleansed by the forest.) Instructor: Michael Plasha, E-RYT500, YACEP (Michael Plasha has been “forest bathing” since he was 10 and has practiced Mindfulness Meditation for over 40 years.) Cost: $30; $5 goes toward the trail maintenance fund at Asbury Woods; no refunds  Did you know Americans spend an average of 10 hours daily on combined screen time? This has created a disconnect for some from nature. Outside of normal office computer use, are you outside more than you are looking at a screen? Calculate the hours of each. When you are in nature, are you trying to accomplish or become something? Running, hiking and biking have their place but forest bathing is mindfully being in nature. It is slowing down to observe what is around us with childlike curiosity. It is not trying to get somewhere or accomplish something. It is breathing deeply to absorb the aromatherapy of nature. It is mindfulness meditation in nature. I realized I have been a forest bather since I was ten. I called it being in nature. You will have the opportunity to get off the grid to clear your mind and come to your senses! As the body slows down and pays attention to the subtleties and nuances of nature’s beauty, the mind will move from thinking to sensing and feeling. You will feel the calming effects of Shinrin Yoku Forest Bathing – a popular Japanese practice that rebalances the body and senses through the proven stress-reduction benefits of simply walking mindfully in the woods. Shinrin-yoku means “taking in the forest atmosphere” or “forest bathing.” The idea is simple: if a person simply visits a natural area and walks in a mindful way there are calming, rejuvenating and restorative benefits to be achieved. My approach combines leisurely walking meditations on gentle paths in the woods with guided activities such as listening meditations and other sensory meditations to help you calm your mind, open your senses, cultivate your intuition, and experience the forest as you never have before. There will be group discussions at several points along the walk, which helps participants learn from and teach each other as we discuss what we are experiencing together. You will learn how to manage your senses wisely with the Yoga practice of Pratyahara (freedom from cravings). Today most of us spend much of our life indoors, sometimes looking at screens and attached to devices. You will go home refreshed and grounded inspired to be in nature more often and less likely to crave artificial stimulation.
