  • Whamm’n Jamm’n 4 Our Veterans Music Fundraiser

    A fundraiser to benefit veterans in the Erie region struggling with homelessness and other challenges. Several top area musicians and bands will perform at the fun event, which includes raffles and prizes. All proceeds will benefit the care and support of local veterans struggling with homelessness, PTSD and other challenges through the help of two regional veterans groups, Embracing Our Veterans and Boots on Ground. Admission is just $5. The event, “Whammi’n ’n Jamm’n 4 Our Veterans,” features music from the Rodger Montgomery Band, Dave VanAmburg and Friends, Steppin’ Pappy, Pine Diary, the DuoTones, Matty B and the Music for Veterans Band with Vinnie Stefanelli. Hosts and coordinators for the event are Denny Fiscus and Joan Martin.     Join local paranormal author Stephanie Wincik for an evening of spooky legends, mysterious sightings and terrifying ghost stories, all set against the backdrop of Erie County’s rich history. This 90-minute lantern-lit stroll will take participants along Erie’s beautiful bayfront as we explore the chilling tales that have earned Lake Erie its reputation as the most haunted of all the Great Lakes. Tours begin Friday, May 26, 2017 and run through October. All walks begin at 8:00pm. Meet in front of the Bicentennial Tower at Dobbins Landing.     The YMCA of Greater Erie’s Eastside Family Y will host their annual Run-A-Muck Mud Run. The event features four levels of participation for kids and families. The 1.5 mile roped-off course includes 19 obstacles and an after-party with “mud pies” and music.

  • Foster Care Art Show

    On Saturday, May 27 from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm, stop by the Macy's Concourse at the Millcreek Mall to view the “Art With A Heart” show in celebration of National Foster Care Month. All artwork was created by children in foster care placement and adoptees up to age 21 from northwestern Pennsylvania. Each piece of artwork depicts the artist’s definition of family.

    Artwork will be grouped by age of the artist. All visitors are invited to vote for their favorite piece of artwork in each age group. Winners will be chosen within each age group.

    Visitors will also have the opportunity to speak with representatives from local adoption and foster care agencies to learn more about how to become a foster parent. There will also be giveaways and a craft for children to complete while parents view the beautiful artwork.

    This art exhibit is made possible thanks to a grant from the Pennsylvania Statewide Adoption and Permanency Network (SWAN). Local partners include Family Services of NW PA, The Bair Foundation, Catholic Charities Counseling and Adoption Services of Erie, Families United Network, Harborcreek Youth Services, and the NW PA Foster Parent’s Association.
