Maitham Basha-Agha is an Iraqi-American freelance photojournalist. He recently worked for the Erie Reader and National Public Radio Marketplace in Erie, PA. Maitham began his photojournalism career professionally without prior experience in 2014 covering the Anti-ISIS protest in Southern Iraq and the Syrian refugees in Northern Iraq. In August 2014, Maitham joined the United States Peace Corps where he taught photo documentary on Botswana’s social issues, and advised Non-Governmental Organizations on how to use social media. Maitham recently spoke on “ISIS, Iraq, and Social Media” at the Jefferson Educational Society.
Maitham’s recent work includes reporting on the New American refugees in Erie, PA for the Erie Reader. He recently exhibited his photojournalism project, “Rust Belt New Americans: A Showcase of Erie's Refugee Population.”
