Friday, May 18

If the names cackling goose, peregrine falcon and brown creeper ring any bells for you, then you need to check out this year's Festival of the Birds at Presque Isle.

The festival is the perfect choice for anyone who is looking for an intimate birding experience, but be wary, because there are only 150 spots available.

For those who have the pleasure of being one of those 150, they will get to enjoy peak songbird migration along with the opportunity to see waders, raptors, waterfowl and shorebirds.

This year's festival features small group field trips, workshops tailored for all skill levels, social festivities and keynote speaker Dr. J. Drew Lanham. Dr. Lanham is a birder, naturalist, hunter-conservationist and author of his book, The Home Place: Memoirs of a Colored Man's Love Affair with Nature, which all registrants will receive a copy of. — Roman Sabella
