A Wonderful, Wintry Walk in the Woods

Asbury Woods hosts their 23rd Annual Winter Wonderland event

Friday, Dec. 20

Are you a bear? No?

Then hibernation, that long, deep sleep — appealing as it might seem — is not for you.

So what could make going outdoors during one of Erie's traditionally inclement months bear-able?

It's Asbury Woods' 23rd annual "Winter Wonderland," an event at the nature park and learning space we normally think of during the spring, summer, and fall seasons, but which also comes alive during the winter, while most of the area's critters are tucked away until primavera.

Every weekend throughout the remainder of December, Erie's wintry delights will be on display. Check out their updated boardwalk with a quarter-mile path punctuated by a jolly light show, set and synchronized to music.

In addition to the hot cocoa and s'mores by the fire, on Fridays Erie Beer will be on hand with samples of wintry brews.

Imagine it: the whole family bundled up for an ethereal jaunt through merry woods, then everyone sipping warm beverages (or beverages that warm the spirits) while the kids enjoy the Discovery Zone and the model train display within the Nature Center. If the outdoors is like a Currier and Ives print, then indoors will practically be a Norman Rockwell painting.

And to think you almost slept through it. — Cara Suppa
