Book Review: Onyx Storm

A storm is coming. Can you brave it?

Entangled: Red Tower Books

How far would you go to save the one you love? At what point are their actions considered irredeemable? What secrets are better left unkept? In Rebecca Yarros' Onyx Storm, these questions and more will be answered as Violet Sorrengail faces her most difficult challenge yet.

In this third installment of the Empyrean series, Violet is a dragon rider in her second year at Basgiath War College, trying to recover in the aftermath of a hard-won battle that has taken the lives of many people close to her.

Leadership changes to new hands. An influx of gryphon fliers, once believed to be the enemy, are forced to take refuge in the school, reigniting old prejudices and disputes as everyone learns that things beyond the border are not what they seem: A new, dangerous enemy approaches.

Wyverns are real. Venin are real. They're coming, the wards are failing, and nobody is safe. And, if that wasn't enough for Violet to worry about, something is wrong with her boyfriend, Xaden Riorson.

In the first installment of the series, Fourth Wing, Violet bonded to two of the most powerful dragons on the Continent: sarcastic and grumpy old Tairn, and young Andarna, the supposed last of her kind. Now, she must go beyond the borders and overseas, relying solely on the information given to her in her father's old journals to set things right.

She needs aid, she needs answers, and she needs the necessary wisdom to put a stop to this war and save her lover in the process. But knowledge comes at a cost and tensions remain higher than ever as she is forced to overcome the impossible.

Yarros' latest novel is a fast-paced fantasy adventure intended for a mature audience due to its graphic depictions of violence and adult content. Onyx Storm is full of witty dialogue, magical fight sequences, steamy romance, gut-wrenching plot twists, and a wide cast of characters for you to love.
