Erie Community Foundation Announces over $2.7 Million in Grants
Breakdown of what the grants do and where they're going
The Erie Community Foundation announces the approval of over $2.7 million in grants for community needs and long-term requests. The funding is available through the Community Impact Fund and is distributed through the Foundation's Helping Today and Shaping Tomorrow programs. "The flexible funding allows the Foundation to meet the moment when Erie needs it most, even when future challenges are unknown," said Patrick Herr, vice president of Community Impact.
During the third quarter cycle, the foundation received 21 applications for the Helping Today grants. Of those, 12 projects were funded, including eight that were fully funded to meet pressing needs.
The Shaping Tomorrow program is awarding $250,000 to Allegheny Health Network (AHN) Saint Vincent Hospital to establish a new Simulation, Teaching, and Academic Research (STAR) Center North in Erie. "Each of these grants represents a partnership," Herr added. Some of the nonprofits awarded in this quarter include Mercy Center for Women, YMCA of Greater Erie, TREC Foundation, and more.
"Grants like these keep essential services running while helping Erie plan for what's next. They address real-time needs of nonprofits and the people they serve by meeting people where they are," Herr said. "Whether it's providing safe shelter, expanding access to healthcare or supporting programs that strengthen families and neighborhoods, philanthropy helps sustain the vitality of our community's response. Each grant reflects local people coming together to address challenges and build a stronger Erie."
