Saturday, Sept. 22

The Erie Philharmonic will kick off its 2018-19 season Saturday, Sept. 22 with the first of five shows in its Pops Series, entitled "1812 Overture and Pops Favorites."

The evening will feature local talent in a Boston Pops-style concert and an "over-the-top" performance of Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture, which will include the Erie Philharmonic Chorus, lights, and cannons.

The orchestra will be led by conductor Daniel Meyer and the choir by director Thomas Brooks.

Later shows in the pop series will bring in popular performers like Byron Stripling, a trumpeter who will bring New Orleans-style jazz to the Philharmonic, and Broadway's Lisa Vroman, who was well-received last year. — Tracy Geibel

8 p.m. // Warner Theatre, 811 State St. // $25 to $60, $12 for students // (814) 455-1375 // for tickets and more information, go to eriephil.org
