Last Gallery Night of 2017 at the Erie Art Museum

Close out this year's run of gallery crawls through the city.

Friday, Dec. 1

All good things must cease at some point — otherwise how does one maintain balance in the universe — and the wonderful Gallery Night events are no exception. It's a great way to close out this year's run of gallery crawls through the city, where participants can stop at a variety of marked locations and enjoy refreshments (perhaps!), local artwork, music and creative company.

For the final gallery night of 2017, over 21 gallery spaces along with the Erie Art Museum will be participating. If you choose to kick off your evening downtown, you can start at the museum with a stroll through Callings, a retrospective of Mercyhurst University professor and artist Dan Burke's 60 years of work. If you haven't caught it yet, be sure to stop by Ancient Ink: Mark Perrott and check out some of the real-life tattoo photographs.

Want to meet some artists next? Pop over to Attic Rehab on 1501 State St. to take a look at original paintings by Will Baldauf, scan some furniture and home decor and browse local artists' work. Brew Ha Ha at 2612 W. Eighth St. will also host an artist meet and greet in addition to some tasty bites, cocktails and coffee.

If you're ready to start holiday shopping, remember to pack some cash, because many of these outlets will be selling their wares. For example, attendees can select beautiful local photographs for gift purposes over at Erie Arts & Culture at 23 W.10th St., where members of the Photographic Arts Society of Northwestern Pennsylvania will highlight their work in its Second Annual Holiday Show. Over at Erie ClaySpace on 1505 State St., a visiting artist from Edinboro University will provide demonstrations. Pottery and ceramics made by members of the Erie ClaySpace Artists Association will be available for purchase.

If this tickles your fancy, go ahead and grab your wallet, your sense of adventure and a few warm layers to head out around Erie. You may discover your new favorite artists or, at the very least, see something new and exciting; it's a great way to get out and about at the beginning of December. — Miriam Lamey
