Letters to the Editor: A County Executive Who Puts Working Families First

Dr. Tyler Titus speaks to their campaign

Like so many of you, I'm sick of the same old boys club that has run the show in Erie County for decades. I'm tired of seeing candidates and elected officials spend more time currying favor with party bosses and political insiders than fighting for the needs of working families.

I'm running for Erie County executive, and I'm running a different kind of campaign.

I was born into rural poverty when my parents were teenagers. My parents worked incredibly hard to provide their 12 children with the bare necessities. I saw firsthand the failures of a system that leaves so many behind. I know, from growing up in poverty, and from my 15 years of work at the Erie County Office of Children and Youth, as a full-time therapist for youth in the foster system, and as the president of the Erie School Board, what we need from county government.

We deserve a county government that is connected to and representative of the people it serves, regardless of who they are, where they're from, or what they have. I envision an Erie County where people come and stay, not just pass through, because they know they can build a fulfilling future for themselves and their families. I have seen up close that in order to have a successful and prosperous economy, we need a healthcare and education system that puts people first. I want to be a part of creating a future that is safe for my children, and yours. I'm ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work to build an Erie County where no one is left behind.

I'm asking for your vote on May 18.
