When the doldrums of a brown-bag lunchtime get you down and you're looking for a little inspiration to get you through the day, grab lunch downtown and hit up the Erie Art Museum for the return of their much-loved Mid Day Art Breaks. Happening on both July 5th and August 9th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the patio outside the art museum will come alive with music, dancing, and local food trucks to help brighten up your mid-week woes with a surge of creativity. These events are free of charge to attend and open to the public. The music will go on rain or shine, but in the event of inclement weather, the museum will make use of their Holstein Gallery and move the party indoors.

According to a statement from the Erie Art Museum, "July's event will feature music from PianoPunk, a local lounge pop trio, and food trucks will include Food For Thought, a charter school initiative that provides students with real-world culinary experiences, and Sundae, a vegan and eco-friendly dessert truck." The July event will also coincide with new hours at the museum, which will (from July 5th onwards) be open on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in addition to their regular hours, allowing museum visitors the chance to visit the galleries in the earlier hours of the day, during the week. After 2 p.m. on the days of the Mid Day Art Breaks, regular admission rates apply.

For more info on upcoming programs at the Erie Art Museum, visit erieartmuseum.org or call 814-459-5477.

In addition to the museum's efforts to get people out and enjoying the local music and culture of Erie, The City of Erie, in collaboration with the Crime Victim Center of Erie County and Kinetic Creativity, are offering Mid Day Dance Breaks on Thursdays from 12 to 1 p.m. in Perry Square through July 20th. These are dance and music performances that also encourage attendees to find their own groove; each performance is followed by a dance workshop featuring the particular style of dance featured in the performance. June 29th will feature Kinetic Creativty Hoop Dancing, July 6th will showcase the Erie Dance Theater, July 13th will be Hoop and Cyr, and July 20th will feature Indian Dance with Sukanya Burman. There will also be local visal artists present during the performance including: Christine Wolfe, Tom Ferraro, Sharon Maas, and Anthony Carson. More information on the Mid Day Dance Breaks can be found on our events calendar.
