Summary of public comments and ordinances
I attended the City Council meeting on Sept. 17 at 6:30 p.m. There was a short presentation and moment of silence honoring late city employee George Lassman. Constituents continued to show up to speak about justice for Marchello Woodard, as it has been nearly four months since the shooting with no indictments or name released. Constituent Carla Arnone suggested a town hall and resources for trauma-informed therapy for the community. "It's too easy to feel invisible when you're a victim of a trauma," Arnone said. The meeting moved on to discuss the following ordinances:
- An ordinance Amending Ordinance Number 26-1958, the Traffic Code of the City of Erie by the installation of stop signs at the following locations passed unanimously.
- Lakeside Dr. & Eagle Point Blvd. – stopping Eagle Point Boulevard
- Lakeside Dr & Euclid Ave. – stopping Euclid Avenue
- Lakeside Dr & Sanford Pl – stopping Sanford Place
- East 8th Street & Bacon St – stopping East 8th Street
- E 8th St & Marne Rd – stopping East 8th Street
- An ordinance appropriating $8,000 from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania acting through the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission from the FFY2023 Certified Local Government Grant passed unanimously.
- An ordinance appropriating $300,000 of donated revenue to provide for the Kahkwa Boulevard Bridge Replacement Project. Funds appropriated in 2024 and received in 2025 passed unanimously.
- An ordinance amending and supplementing Article 1301, known as the City of Erie Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance (SALDO), specifically amending Articles I, II, III, IV, and V, which re-defines Major and Minor Subdivisions and revises the review process for SALDO applications in Erie had its first reading.
- An ordinance amending Part I of Article 113.09(f)(1), whereby the monetary limit for the inter-fund transfers authorized by the Mayor without prior Council approval is increased had its first reading.
