Shadow Pandemic: Examining Erie's Domestic Violence During COVID-19

The presentation discusses the trends and nature of domestic violence in Erie during the pandemic. Using five years (2017-2021) of domestic violence data of Erie Police Department, the paper examines the spatial distribution of domestic violence during COVID's pre-lockdown, lockdown, and post-lockdown periods. Christopher Magno, Ph.D., has been teaching criminal justice at Gannon University since 2013. He holds a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Department of Criminal Justice, Indiana University, Bloomington. His research focuses on Urban Crime, Urban Issues and Geographic Information System. For his innovative teaching and engagement in the Globalization Speaker Series and Community-based Mapping Exhibit he received Gannon's Faculty Award for Excellence in Service-Learning and the Cooney-Jackman Endowed Professorship (2013-2016). Students in his class explore theories and realities of crime and justice. Magno developed crime web exercise over several years of teaching criminal justice and orchestrates senior student projects for the Community-based Mapping Exhibit. Event: Free Lecture
