Resistance Through Music: The Life And Music Of Florence Price

Gannon Celebrates Black History Month! On February 19, 2025, Gannon University will host Grammy-nominated, internationally-touring concert pianist Michelle Cann, foremost interpreter of the music of Florence Price (1887-1953). Price was the first African American woman to have her work performed by a major symphony orchestra. Gannon students will narrate this concert, helping audiences understand Price's life amidst the broad arc of African American history. The concert will present Price's Piano Concerto in D Minor and her Sonata in E Minor, and will feature musicians from the Erie Philharmonic Orchestra.
