Today's headlines are giving cause for concern over the purported rise of authoritarian leaders, wannabe dictators, and tyrants globally. But since 2000,numerous authoritarian leaders have been deposed through various means –including coups, popular uprisings, and foreign interventions. From Milosevic in Yugoslavia, to Hussein in Iraq, Gaddafi in Libya, and more, there is a notable list of significant instances when authoritarian leaders have been removed from power in the 21st century. The circumstances surrounding each ousting vary, of course, as reflected by the complex political landscapes – and times – in which these events occurred. But a review of fallen authoritarian leaders – offered by JES President Dr.Ferki Ferati – suggests that since the turn of the millennia, it has been a bad time to be a tyrant.
