Redistricting Reform: Making Sure Voters Pick Their Lawmakers

Every 10 years following the U.S. Census, Pennsylvania's House, Senate, and Congressional district maps are redrawn to reflect population changes. Unfortunately, a history of gerrymandering has resulted in lawmakers selecting their voters too often, rather than voters selecting their lawmakers. As a consequence, artificial majorities are created, and the voices of voters are muffled. Election integrity begins with district maps that aren't gerrymandered. Dr. Michael Bucell, a Fair Districts PA volunteer who serves as the local Fair Districts PA coordinator in Erie County, Pennsylvania, and as the Northwest Region Contact Person, will explain why a PA constitutional amendment is necessary to ensure fair districts and elections in the future of the Commonwealth.
