The Bruce Gallery is pleased to present WORD: Text-based Art and Design. Please join us for the opening reception on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 from 4-6 p.m., with remarks at 5 p.m. Refreshments will be served, and visitors will be invited to create word-based beaded bracelets to take home. Words are more than carriers of meaning—they are material, image, and cultural force. WORD: Text-based Art and Design brings together contemporary and historical works that blur the line between reading and seeing, revealing how language can clarify or conceal, persuade, or play. Throughout the exhibition, visitors are invited to consider how words shape not only what we say, but how we imagine truth and connection. WORD was curated by Derek Witucki, Professor of Graphic Design at PennWest Edinboro. The exhibition features works from the Bruce Gallery Permanent Collection--including work by Robert Indiana, John Silk Deckard, and Robert Rauschenberg--as well as works on loan from artists and institutions across the country. WORD will be on view through Sunday, March 15, 2026. The Bruce Gallery is located on the first floor of the Baron-Forness Library, 200 Tartan Rd., Edinboro, PA. The gallery is free and open to the public during library operating hours. You can find more information about the Bruce Gallery's exhibitions and programs at brucegallery.info.
