What happened to democracy's historic journey in Athens, and why does it matter? Dr. Robert Garland, the Roy D. and Margaret B. Wooster Emeritus Professor of the Classics at Colgate University, and author of numerous books, unfurls what Athens achieved as a result of its system of government – in art, architecture, philosophy, drama, etc. – and couples that with its notable shortcomings and glaring failures, such as the ill-judged Sicilian expedition and the execution of Socrates, to examine Athenian's successes and failures in his "Democracy: From Beginning to Now" series.
