An Introduction To Cosmic Horror

Saturday, October 3, 2026 from 2:30 PM to 4 PM

Join us for an introduction to the mind‑bending world of cosmic horror.

Do you dare stare into the abyss? Would you risk your sanity for knowledge? Are you interested in cosmic horror but unsure where to start? Join us, if you dare, at the Blasco Library for an introduction into the mind-bending genre of Cosmic horror!

Cosmic Horror is a subgenre of horror fiction that has gained popularity in the last two decades. It focuses on the fear of the unknowable and cosmic beings beyond human understanding. We will briefly discuss the early works of the genre like The King in Yellow and The Call of Cthulhu. Then we will discuss the new authors reimagining this genre today across books, films, and games. Start your Spooky season off right with a peak behind the veil of reality... just try not to lose your mind.

Interested in reading one of these mind-bending tales? Check out some of these books with your library card! We will have a selection of books pulled from our collection that fall into the cosmic horror genre. We will also have a reader's advisory list of books, movies, games, and podcasts so you can explore the dark corners of the genre on your own!

Free. Registration required. Ages 15 years to adult. This class will be held in the Blasco Library's Admiral Room. The presentation will include discussion of horror‑themed content, so it is best suited for teens and adults rather than children.
