Throughout the month of April, the Lake Erie Fiber Arts Guild will be presenting a show at 1020 Collective featuring the various fiber-related artworks from local artists and crafters encompassing the skills of weaving, sewing, crochet, embroidery, and more.

CONTINUING FRIDAY, APR. 10

Something that makes our Gem City truly shine is our arts and culture scene, which never disappoints. On April 3 through April 30, the Lake Erie Fiber Arts Guild (LEFG) will hold an art show at the 1020 Collective titled A Common Thread.

A Common Thread encompasses the full range of fiber arts, which is the usage of natural or synthetic fibers to create art. These mediums include sewing, spinning, weaving, crochet, knitting, hand-dyeing, embroidery, beading, and more. Around 20 members will display their pieces, showcasing their unique styles across two floors of the building.

LEFG Secretary Nicole Galloway-Miller highlighted several of her fellow guild members' talents: "Members usually have a niche. LEFG President Deborah Sementelli makes clothes out of antique lacy tablecloths. Barb Hauck is a weaver. Some artists even combine fiber arts with traditional art like painting."

Some popular items viewers can expect to see will include heirloom pieces, as well as the LEFG's 2019 "Right to Vote Story Quilt," created through the collaboration of the guild. This anniversary piece details the long efforts of the Suffrage Movement to secure women's rights.

Additionally on display, a large blanket composed of contributed knit and crochet squares for Compton's Table. This piece was organized by Kristen Hydinger, owner of Stitches of Erie.

A reception will be held on April 16 at 6 p.m., offering light refreshments, a cash bar, demonstrations, interactive activities, and vendors. On April 18, the show will open a Spring Market, giving attendees another chance to bring home one-of-a-kind pieces and commission future projects.

LEFG was founded in 1998 with the goal, "to connect and inform the viewing audience about the unique and contemporary qualities of fiber art." Individual members' pieces can be found in private and corporate collections throughout the United States.
