COVID-19 Case Rates Continue to Rise

The PA Health Department has the total number of COVID-19 deaths at 759 with none reported this week. The Erie County Department of Health lists a total of 798 deaths, with one reported this week. 

The number of cumulative cases in Erie County is now 57,477, according to the PA Department of Health.

In the last week, there have been 270 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Erie County According to the PA Department of Health, with 220 cases reported last week, with 107 the week prior, and 104 the week before that. 

Over the last seven days, there has been an average of nearly 39 cases per day (and an increase of 8 per day compared to last week). 

Weekly reported cases in Erie, Crawford, Venango, and Warren counties have more than doubled in the last seven days. 

These totals, however, are only a fraction of the cases compared to January of this year.

This total, of course, does not include individuals who have tested positive via at-home testing kits, and only reflects the numbers of officially reported cases. 

There are currently 26 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in Erie County, with two patients currently requiring the use of a ventilator.

As of now, there are 158,054 Erie County residents who have been fully vaccinated (up 318 from last week), with 23,800 having received their first dose (down 108), and 79,298 who have received a booster shot (up 273).

State, Local, and National Statistics

Pennsylvania now has 2,827,882  cases of COVID-19, for a weekly increase of 14,928 and 11,420 last week.

So far, there have been 44,733 deaths statewide, with 183 occurring this week, and 79 last week. 

According to the CDC, the US has a total of 81,391,274 cases. There have been 73,720new cases in the last 24 hours, and 431,990 cases in the last 7 days. 

The total number of deaths in the US is 993,341, with 347 in the last 24 hours, and 2,338 in the last week.

As for updates in our nearby counties, Crawford County has 19,946 positive cases (up 87 since last week), with 318 deaths (no change this week).

McKean County has 8,245 total positive cases (up 24) and 141 deaths (up one this week). 

Venango County has 11,286 total positive cases (up 41) and 240 deaths (up two this week). 

Warren County has 7,446 total positive cases (up 52), and 210 deaths (no change this week).
