Discover Cinematic Magic with Movies Under the Stars

Goodell Gardens to host six films through August

New Africa

Even though it's felt like Mercury's been in retrograde for all of 2020, the stars are finally aligning for some semblance of summer fun. Like stars, people need a little space in our current public health climate, and Goodell Garden's wide-open field will offer just that as it plays host to the Borough of Edinboro and Edinboro University's Movies Under the Stars. The popular outdoor movie series will return this year with six family-friendly feature films, all beloved classics of many a millennial childhood.

Each movie will begin at sundown (approximately 9 p.m.) every Thursday between July 16 and Aug. 20 and is subject to cancellation in the event of inclement weather. Parking and admission is free to all, but only 250 will be allowed on the premises for each installment per Pennsylvania Dept. of Health social distancing guidelines under the Green Phase. Organizers ask that individuals stay in their groups as much as possible and wear masks when leaving their pod. Snacks and refreshments will not be provided due to safety concerns, but attendees are welcome to bring their own (and clean up after themselves upon departure). Loaner chairs and blankets will likewise not be available, so throw a couple in the trunk or backseat before you go.

The Disney-heavy film schedule is as follows (look to the sky for shooting stars — you may see them framing a Disney castle):

  • July 16: Finding Nemo
  • July 23: The Lion King (1994 animated)
  • July 30: Aladdin (1992 animated)
  • Aug. 6: Beauty & the Beast (1991 animated)
  • Aug. 13: Toy Story
  • Aug. 20: The Sandlot

Take a quick twilight drive out to the Boro and bring the kids — it's hardly (Buzz) Lightyears away.

Thursdays through Aug. 20 at sundown // Goodell Gardens, 221 Waterford St. (Route 6N), Edinboro, PA 16412 // Free // goodellgardens.org
