Erie Ale Works Hosts a Festivus for the Rest of Us

A maximum of tradition, a minimum of distracting tinsel

THURSDAY, DEC. 23

Another Festivus miracle is in the offing, and all are invited to bear witness.

For a seventh year, the folks at Erie Ale Works will channel their inner Frank Costanza for an evening ripe with all of the alternative holiday's requisite traditions, as infamously portrayed in the '90s sitcom Seinfeld. These include the display of a gloriously unadorned Festivus pole (aluminum for its excellent strength-to-weight ratio), airing of grievances, and feats of strength. While no one will be forced to wrestle their fathers, they may choose to grapple for a round of Seinfeld trivia hosted by U Frame It's Matt Lebowitz.

Rectifying a grievance with Erie Ale Works' at-times too cozy brewpub, the popular event will unfold instead at The Shop at 19th and Chestnut, a creative mixed-use building in Erie's Little Italy. In addition to beer from EAW (including freshly tapped Nexus of the Universe IPA), revelers can enjoy cocktails from Altered State Distillery, meaty delicacies from The Que Abides, and frozen treats from Northern Scoop Craft Ice Cream. DJ Steve Maynard and Fox Grotto will provide the musical backing for the festivities.

Eat, drink, and be bluntly forthcoming — there's nothing two-faced about having a singularly good time.

4 p.m. to 10 p.m. (doors open at 3) // The Shop at Chestnut, 1909 Chestnut St. // Free admission // eriealeworks.com/events
