Erie County Community College (EC3) receives a $50,000 gift from Empower Erie to support student needs. "The EC3 Student Emergency Fund offers financial assistance to students facing immediate and urgent needs due to unforeseen expenses that could impede their academic success. Examples of such expenses include unexpected auto repairs or medical bills," wrote E. Shawn Waskiewicz, following up with an example of these expenses. "Jordan was an EC3 student who had an unforeseen dental expense. She received a grant through the Emergency Fund, which helped her continue in her academic journey at EC3."

Since 2016, Empower Erie has worked to establish a Community College to improve the overall educational attainment and household income of Erie County residents, meet employers' current and future needs for skilled workers, and make Erie a more attractive place for businesses while creating better-paying jobs.

"Empower Erie was instrumental in bringing a Community College to Erie. We owe them a huge debt of gratitude, and truly appreciate their gift today," said Chris Gray, Ph.D., President of EC3.
