Erie County Sees 136 Weekly COVID-19 Cases, One Death

Final scheduled press conference reports 18 new COVID-19 cases and one death

On Wednesday, May 26, the office of Erie County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper reported  18 new positive cases of COVID-19 along with one additional death. 

Dahlkemper announced that this would be Erie County's final regularly scheduled COVID-19 press conference.

"Thank you for tuning in to stay informed over these past almost-15 months, and for doing what you have done and continue to do to help slow the spread of the virus in Erie County," Dahlkemper stated. Regular updates will continue via social media and through ErieCounty.gov. Although there are none planned at this moment, there may be additional televised press conferences for any major announcements. 

Dahlkemper stressed that "we are still fighting this virus in Erie County. It's still very present here in our community." 136 1

Erie County's cumulative total now stands at 20,790 total cases and 468 total deaths.  

In the past week, there have been 136 new cases and one death listed in the National Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NEDSS). On average, there were 19 new cases per day last week, for a decrease of more than 13 cases per day (41% overall) compared to last week's data. 

Currently, there are 21 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in Erie County, with two patients requiring ventilators. 

According to the PA Department of Health, there are 104,414 fully vaccinated residents in Erie County, a 3,691 rise from last week, now accounting for over 37.9% of the population (for a 1.34% increase this week). There are currently 21,441 partially vaccinated residents.

Mon 5/17/21 - 19 new cases

Tues 5/18/21 - 14 new cases

Wed 5/19/21 - 18 new cases, three new deaths

State, Local, and National Statistics

Today, Pennsylvania saw 1,127 additional positive cases reported, for a total of 1,198,595 cumulative cases and 8,493 cases this week.

So far, there have been 27,123 deaths statewide, with 198 deaths this week (and 266 reported last week).

So far, 10,321,111 doses of vaccine have been administered in PA, with 444,206 in the last week.

According to the CDC, there have been 277,290,173 vaccines administered in the US, with more than 12.6 million this week.

The US has a total of 32,994,369 total cases, with 154,976 new cases in the last seven days. There have been 20,956 new cases in the last 24 hours.  

The total number of deaths in the US is 588,421, with 3,073 reported in the last week and 545 in the last 24 hours. 

As for updates in our nearby counties, Crawford County has 7,392 positive cases (up 83 this week), with 149 deaths (no change). 

McKean County has 3,706 positive cases (up 44) and 72 deaths (no change).  

Venango County has 3,973 positive cases (up 65) and 96 deaths (up one). 

Warren County has 2,618 total positive cases (up 21), and 103 deaths (no change).
