Erie County Sees 46 COVID-19 Deaths This Week

102 new cases were reported today, totaling 991 this week

On Wednesday, Dec. 30, the office of Erie County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper reported six new deaths due to COVID-19. There were 102 new positive cases reported, bringing our cumulative total to 11,500 reported positive cases.

There been 46 deaths in the last week, for an average of nearly eight deaths per day. 

There have been 261 total Erie County deaths reported through the National Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NEDSS). Nearly 69% of Erie County's total deaths have occurred during the month of December. 

There have been 50,192 negative tests in total, with 1,396 recorded this week, 1,878 the previous week, and 4,007 the week prior. 

*During the Christmas holidays, there were both a limited number of tests being performed and a longer wait time for results. Due to this, data regarding new cases may be slightly misleading during this time.

According to the county, there have been 991 new positive cases in the past week , with an average of nearly 141 cases being reported each day. 

Aside from Monday, Dec. 28, There have been 100 or more new cases reported each day from Nov. 11 onward.

Erie County's cumulative case total has more than doubled during the month of December (since Dec. 1). The number of deaths has more than doubled in a little over three weeks. (since Dec. 8). 

Day-by-day Breakdown

Thurs 12/24/20 - 237 new cases, 10 new deaths

Fri 12/25/20 - 189 new cases

Sat 12/26/20 - 154 new cases

Sun 12/27/20 - 116 new cases

Mon 12/28/20 - 46 new cases, 17 new deaths (reported over the 4-day period)

Tues 12/29/20 - 147 new cases, 13 new deaths

Wed 12/30/20 - 102 new cases, six new deaths

 

December Weekly Breakdown 

Dec. 3 - 9: 53 deaths, 1,643 cases reported

Dec. 10 - 16: 35 deaths, 1,585 cases reported

Dec. 17 - 23: 45 deaths, 1,878 cases reported

Dec. 24 - 30: 46 deaths, 991* cases reported

 

State, Local, and National Statistics 

Today, Pennsylvania saw 8,984 additional positive cases reported, for a total of 631,333. 

So far, there have been 15,672 deaths statewide. 

In this week alone, Pennsylvania has seen 1,230 deaths, with 1,274  reported last week and 3,703 the previous week.

3,181,266 patients have tested negative to date. In the last week, Pennsylvania saw 50,177 new positive cases (61,787 last week and 74,052 the week prior) and 73,031 negative tests (with 95,207 last week).

According to the CDC, the US has a total of 19,432,125  total cases, with 1,262,063 new cases in the last seven days. There have been 199,282 new cases in the last 24 hours. 

The total number of deaths in the US is 337,419, with 34,427 reported in the last week (18,742 last week) and 3,390 in the last 24 hours.

As for updates in our nearby counties, Crawford County has 4,479 positive cases (up 220 this week and 493 last week), with 76 deaths (up ten this week). 

McKean County has 1,646 positive cases (up 248) and 20 deaths (up six). 

Venango County has 2,332 positive cases (up 207) and 47 deaths (up 12 this week). 

Warren County has 1,460 total positive cases (up 572), and 26 deaths (up five this week).

Ashtabula County's cumulative total is 3,795 positive cases (up 198 this week) and 66 deaths (up one this week). 

Chautauqua County has a cumulative total of 3,566 positive cases (up 508) and 32 deaths (up tsix this week).

Dahlkemper's weekly televised briefing will return next week on Wednesday, Jan. 6.
