Erie County Sees More than 50 New COVID-19 Cases Per Day

370 new cases were reported this week, along with four deaths today

In the last week, there have been 370 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Erie County According to the PA Department of Health, with 266 new cases reported the previous week, and 173 the week prior. Three additional deaths were reported this week by the PA Dept. of Health, bringing the total to 426. According to the Erie County Department of Health, there have been 486 deaths, with four reported on Aug. 25 alone. A similar numerical discrepancy has been standard for the majority of the pandemic.

Over the last seven days, there has been an average of nearly 53 cases per day.

Erie County – along with the vast majority of US counties – is classified as having a high rate of transmission. This distinction marks a rate of 100 positive cases per 100,000 people or higher. The CDC recommends all people wear masks indoors in areas with a substantial or high transmission rate. 

Erie County's cumulative total now stands at 22,276 total cases and 426 total deaths based on the PA Department of Health data. 

According to the PA Department of Health, there are 130,037 fully vaccinated residents in Erie County (an increase of 1,101 this week), now accounting for nearly 48.86% of the entire population. There are currently 10,937 partially vaccinated residents.

State, Local, and National Statistics

Today, Pennsylvania saw 3,622 additional positive cases reported, for a total of 1,281,199 cumulative cases and 24,875 cases this week, for a weekly increase of more than 10,000

So far, there have been 28,131 deaths statewide, with 113 deaths this week.

So far, 12,060,033 doses of vaccine have been administered in PA, with 129,607 occurring last week.

According to the CDC, there have been 364,842,701 vaccines administered in the US, with approximately 12 million occurring this week.

The US has a total of 38,150,911 total cases. There have been 153,572 new cases in the last 24 hours. 

The total number of deaths in the US is 629,139, with 1,138 in the last 24 hours. 

As for updates in our nearby counties, Crawford County has 7,931 positive cases (up 125 this week), with 159 deaths (up one). 

McKean County has 3,886 positive cases (up 32) and 75 deaths (no change). 

Venango County has 4,305 positive cases (up 71) and 106 deaths (up one). 

Warren County has 2,764 total positive cases (up 55), and 107 deaths (no change).
