Erie County Sees Week of 311 New Cases, Three Deaths

38 new positive cases were reported today, with one new death

On Wednesday, Mar. 17, the office of Erie County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper announced 38 new positive cases of COVID-19, as well as one additional death. 

March 18 will mark precisely one year from the first known cases of COVID-19 in 2020.

Coronavirus makes its way to northwest Pennsylvania

Erie County's cumulative total now stands at 17,875 total cases and 447 total deaths.

In the past week, there have been 311 new cases and three deaths* listed in the National Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NEDSS). On average, there were more than 44 new cases per day. 

There have been 64,066 negative tests, with 3,272 this week and 2,282 last week. 

According to the Erie County Department of Health, there are currently 21 people hospitalized from COVID-19, with one on a ventilator.

Of the total cases, 52% are female and 47% are male.** 

*Statistics in NEDSS are readjusted to reflect accuracy, often accounting for a patient's formal place of residency.

Jan. 7 - Jan. 13: 21 deaths, 1,178 cases reported

Jan. 14 - Jan. 20: 42 deaths, 816 cases reported

State, Local, and National Statistics 

Today, Pennsylvania saw 3,119 additional positive cases reported, for a total of 970,717 cumulative cases. 

So far, there have been 24,652 deaths statewide. 

In the past week, Pennsylvania has seen 250 deaths, with 270 reported last week.

In the last week, Pennsylvania saw 17,991 new positive cases (17,319 last week and 17,777 the week prior). 

So far, 3,840,896 doses of vaccine have been administered in PA, with 712,069 occurring this week. 

In the US, 113 million vaccines have been administered, with more than 11.5 million this week.

According to the CDC, the US has a total of 29,374,758 total cases, with 382,160 new cases in the last seven days. There have been 51,954 new cases in the last 24 hours. 

The total number of deaths in the US is 534,099, with 7,886 reported in the last week and 995 in the last 24 hours. 

As for updates in our nearby counties, Crawford County has 6,552 positive cases (up 72 this week), with 141 deaths (up three).

McKean County has 3,106 positive cases (up 20) and 65 deaths (no change). 

Venango County has 3,474 positive cases (up 43) and 89 deaths (up two). 

Warren County has 2,241 total positive cases (up 25), and 98 deaths (no change).
