Erie County Sees Week of 37 Deaths and 677 New COVID-19 Cases

99 new positive cases and three deaths reported today

On Wednesday, Feb. 3, the office of Erie County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper reported 99 new positive COVID-19 cases as well as three new deaths. This brings our cumulative total to 15,783 reported positive cases.

There have 37 deaths in the last week, for a total of 402 Erie County deaths reported through the National Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NEDSS). 

On Jan. 28, a total of 27 deaths were reported due to a lag in the NEDSS database. These deaths occurred between Jan. 3 and Jan. 18. The age range for these deaths was between 53 and 94. Two of these deaths were from Albion State Correctional Institution, while eight were identified as residents of long-term care facilities.

According to the county, there have been 677 new positive cases in the past week (681 last week and 816 the week prior), with an average of more nearly 97 cases being reported each day. Last week was the first time the weekly average (from Wednesday to Wednesday) has dipped below 100 cases per day since the second week of November.

There have been 57,041 negative tests in total, with 1,279 recorded this week, 1,172 the previous week, and 3,228 the week prior. 

According to the Erie County Department of Health, there are 44 people hospitalized from COVID-19 (down 6 from last week) with seven on ventilators (down three). 

Erie County's cumulative case total has more than doubled in just under eight weeks (since Dec. 10). The number of deaths has more than doubled in less than seven weeks. (since Dec. 18). 

Of the total cases, 52% are female and 48% are male.

State, Local, and National Statistics 

Today, Pennsylvania saw  3,128 additional positive cases reported, for a total of 853,616 cumulative cases. 

So far, there have been 21,955 deaths statewide. 

In this week alone, Pennsylvania has seen 805 deaths, with 1,237 reported last week and 2,954 the previous week.

So far, 1,067,180 doses of vaccine have been administered in PA, with 33.9 million administered in the US. 

In the last week, Pennsylvania saw 35,247 new positive cases (35,199  last week and 41,781 the week prior).

According to the CDC, the US has a total of 26,277,125  total cases, with 975,959 new cases in the last seven days. There have been 116,915 new cases in the last 24 hours. 

The total number of deaths in the US is 445,264, with 21,745 reported in the last week (23,213 last week and 44,301 the week prior) and 3,433 in the last 24 hours.

As for updates in our nearby counties, Crawford County has 5,996 positive cases (up 172 this week), with 130 deaths (up six this week). 

McKean County has 2,790 positive cases (up 133) and 58 deaths (up one). 

Venango County has 3,136 positive cases (up 106) and 77 deaths (up 13 this week). 

Warren County has 2,040 total positive cases (up 70), and 92 deaths (up seven this week).

Ashtabula County's cumulative total is 4,588 positive cases (up 286 this week) and 77 deaths (up four this week). 

Chautauqua County has a cumulative total of 6,822 positive cases (up 424) and 111 deaths (up 60 from last week's data).
