This 'Residential Security Map' of Erie from 1937 depicts redlining in action. Neighborhoods were color-coded according to the perceived 'quality' of the neighborhood, with green neighborhoods being the most desirable and red neighborhoods characterized as wholly undesirable or even 'hazardous.'

A free Erie Public Square panel organized by CIVITAS and Connect Urban Erie will be held Thurs., March 4 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. via Zoom. The discussion will be "an exploration of redlining, the federally-sanctioned, racially-discriminatory mortgage lending practices that were established in the 1930s," according to a release from the organizers.

Moderator and City Councilwoman Liz Allen will be joined by Erie artist and cultural critic Roland Slade, Erie architect Adam J. Trott, psychiatrist and author Mindy Thompson Fullilove and architect Ken Doyno.

Join via Zoom link.
