Thursday, Jun. 20

It's finally summertime — which means it's time to get down and party. Gather your family and friends and prepare to enjoy free live entertainment at the beautiful parks Erie has to offer.

"Traditionally we've been in the streets, but now we're able to utilize and promote our local parks and all of the beautiful scenery we have downtown," states John Buchna, executive director of the Downtown Erie Partnership. The first of six weekly events, the kick-off block party will be at Dobbins Landing, with Griswold Park being the setting for Jun. 27.

If you're not familiar with the Downtown Block Parties, this is a great year to get a glimpse of everything that Erie's Downtown has to celebrate. It's a great opportunity to network and connect with people, discover new businesses, and hangout at the establishments you already know and love.

The Downtown Block Parties have been going strong for over a decade now, and as time progresses, so do the parties. "We're currently segueing into more traditional, original music," explains Buchna. "In the past we've really only had cover bands, but as we've been trying out more original bands and their music, the support has been great."

Buchna expects that to continue. "When we offer change each year, it gives a reason to come back."  — Kalli Oberlander
