Last Local Laps Let Loose

Saturday, Sept. 22

The Eerie Roller Girls are just about set to close out their home season. Our own cadre of multi-wheeled speed demons will face off against the Ladies Death and Derby Society of Madison County, N.Y., located just east of Syracuse. Our team of female athletes have had a great season, bringing in crowds to watch and support their bouts at the Bayfront Convention Center. The team, a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA), the sport's governing body, experienced a swell in its numbers this year, with more active skaters than ever before. For those of you who still haven't gotten the chance to catch this invigorating breed of sport — one well-suited for those weary of traditional mainstream teams and leagues — this is your chance to catch the ladies as they swiftly circle around their opponents (that's how the "jammers" score points after all). This evening will also feature a youth bout — with skaters ranging from age 8 to 17 — between the Pittsburgh Derby Brats and Kitchener, Ontario' Tri-City Junior Roller Derby before the main event. — Nick Warren

5:00 p.m. doors open, 5:30 p.m. whistle for youth event, 6:30 and 7:30 for main event // Bayfront Convention Center, 1 Sassafras Pier // $12 at the door, $10 pre-sale (door tickets $2 off with non-perishable food item, donations going to Second Harvest Food Bank) // eerierollergirls.com
