Tomorrow, two local organizations – the Youth Leadership Institution of Erie and the YMCA – will welcome Rishin Sharma, the Pennsylvania YMCA Youth and Government Student Governor, to celebrate the collaboration between the two groups.

The goal of this collaboration is "an afterschool enrichment program designed to develop leadership and civic engagement within local teens," a press release by the YMCA and Youth Leadership Institution of Erie, said.

On behalf of Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf, Regional Director Julie Slomski will speak at the event. In addition to remarks by Sharma and Slomski, Nyrie Burrows and Edison Nicholson of the Youth Leadership Institute, and Corey Cook, the program director for Downtown YMCA Teen Center will presenting.

The collaboration announcement will take place Friday, Sept. 21 at 4:30 p.m. at Governor Wolf's Northwest Regional Office on State Street in Erie.

An open house for youth looking to #GETINVOLVED with the new program (as the slogan says), will be hosted on Tuesday, Sept. 25 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Gannon University's Palumbo Center.

For more information on either event, contact Tammy Roche, the vice president of membership, marketing and financial development for the YMCA of Greater Erie at (814) 566-9597. – Hannah McDonald
