The Crowd Booze: American Craft Beer Week in Erie

All aboard the Beer Coaster as local brewers celebrate their craft

Thursday, May 16 - 19

If we're being honest, these days it feels like every week is craft beer week in the Gem City, which is understandable given the quality and quantity of our local craft brews. Celebrating American Craft Beer Week (ACBW) via the events below, most of which fall along the Lake Erie Ale Trail, ensures that you are supporting truly local craft breweries who are doing what they do because it brings them — and their thirsty patrons — joy year-round.

Meet the Brewers at Erie Ale Works - Thursday, May 16

It would be kind of weird if you went to Erie Ale Works and didn't meet the owners (either Steve Anthony or Jeff McCullor are typically working the taps, if not both), but who is anyone to argue with a reason to visit, chat these guys up and grab some Que Abides food truck deliciousness on a Thursday night? 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. // 416 W. 12th St.

3rd Annual 0.01K at Erie Ale Works - Friday, May 17

Every jaunt down State Street with a beer in hand has provided elite training that leads to this singular moment: EAW's third annual 0.01K. The $5 suggested donation benefits the Erie Humane Society, and the Que Abides will be on hand again to serve food from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The first heart-pounding race kicks off at 6:30 p.m. — don't miss it! 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. // 416 W. 12th St.

Beer Coaster at Waldameer Park - Saturday, May 18

Rain or shine, folks, this year's Beer Coaster — a craft beer and gourmet hot dog celebration that takes place at our own Waldameer Park — will have chills (ice cold brews) and thrills (live music, delectable wieners and, oh yeah, tons of rides!). With proceeds benefiting the Lake Erie Ale Trail, a $25 ticket gets you food and drink, while a $45 ticket also includes a Ride-A-Rama pass (which at $20 is just over $10 below the gate admission). All day // 220 Peninsula Dr.

Sunday Sesh at Five & 20 Spirits & Brewing - Sunday, May 19

Featuring live music from The Division Street Machine, finish off your ACBW in beautiful Westfield, N.Y. at the Mazza Chautauqua Cellars/Five & 20 Spirits and Brewing winery/distillery/brewery. Yes, there is something for everyone, including rustic grub from Bird's innovative menu. 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. // 8398 W. Main St., Westfield, NY 14787 — Cara Suppa
