Thinking Outside the Box and Giving Back

Box of Love hopes to help 200 kids this holiday season

Saturday, Nov. 16

"One Erie, One Love" has been the motto of The Box Streetware for more than seven years. This year they are adhering to the words of founder Jon Box — "with love and unity, anything is possible."

The Box is a local "street couture" business that also raises funds for less fortunate families in Erie and this year they will be hosting their fourth annual Box of Love event that allows them to give Christmas presents to children whose parents are not able to provide for their families.

"The biggest goal of our event is to show unity in the community," Box commented. "We believe that with everyone rallying together to pitch in and come together, we can make a difference in these kids' lives."

In preparation for the season, The Box is holding a fundraising event at Docksider Tavern that will include a Chinese auction, benefit merchandise, and food available with a donation.

Donations from local entrepreneurs, business owners, and organizations help The Box to continue this event each year. With its growing success, Box of Love hopes to double the amount of people it helps this year, reaching 200 children.

"Our annual fundraising event has received some really good feedback from the families that we've helped," Box said. "The parents were very thankful for us being able to help them with their predicament. Some of them were able to use the opportunity to use the little income they have to pay their bills instead of sacrificing them just to be able to get holiday presents for their kids."

There will be another fundraiser at PACA later in the month and the final presentation of gifts will take place Dec. 6 at Oasis Market during their Gallery Night event. — Chloe Forbes
