Weekly Total of Reported COVID-19 Cases Doubles

No local deaths reported by Erie County Dept. of Health

The PA Health Department has the total number of COVID-19 deaths at 759 with one reported this week. The Erie County Department of Health lists a total of 797 deaths, with none reported this week. 

The number of cumulative cases in Erie County is now 57,477, according to the PA Department of Health.

In the last week, there have been 220 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Erie County According to the PA Department of Health, more than double the number of last week's 107 cases reported, with 104 the week prior, and 88 the week before that. 

Over the last seven days, there has been an average of more than 31 cases per day (and increase of 16 per day compared to last week). 

Weekly reported cases in Erie, Crawford, Venango, and Warren counties have more than doubled in the last seven days. 

These totals, however, are only a fraction of the cases compared to January of this year.

This total, of course, does not include individuals who have tested positive via at-home testing kits, and only reflects the numbers of officially reported cases. 

There are currently 21 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in Erie County, with no patients currently requiring the use of a ventilator.

As of now, there are 157,736 Erie County residents who have been fully vaccinated (up 828 from last week), with 23,908 having received their first dose (down 246), and 79,025 who have received a booster shot (up 768).

State, Local, and National Statistics

Pennsylvania now has 2,812,954  cases of COVID-19, for a weekly increase of 11,420. 

So far, there have been 44,550 deaths statewide, with 79 occurring this week, and 109 last week.

According to the CDC, the US has a total of 80,874,929 cases. There have been 58,492 new cases in the last 24 hours, and 331,851 cases in the last 7 days. 

The total number of deaths in the US is 986,545, with 266 in the last 24 hours, and 2,446 in the last week. 

As for updates in our nearby counties, Crawford County has 19,859 positive cases (up 79 since last week), with 318 deaths (no change this week). 

McKean County has 8,221 total positive cases (up 10) and 140 deaths (up one). 

Venango County has 11,286 total positive cases (up 36) and 238 deaths (no change this week). 

Warren County has 7,352 total positive cases (up 40), and 210 deaths (no change this week).
