The Erie to Pittsburgh Trail Alliance, Impact Corry, and Friends of the Corry Junction Greenway Trail will host a National Trails Day – a day of “celebrating trails, giving back, and finding community in the outdoors.”

SATURDAY, JUN. 20

The Erie to Pittsburgh Trail Alliance, Impact Corry, and Friends of the Corry Junction Greenway Trail will host a National Trails Day celebration Saturday, June 20. Free and open to all, activities will take place at the outdoor pavilion on the grounds of the Elmer C. Carrier American Legion Post 365 in Corry.

"The event is about celebrating trails, giving back, and finding community in the outdoors," said organizer Melinda Meyer, director of programs for Impact Corry. "Corry Junction Greenway Trail is one of the few segments that is finished in the area." The 6-mile trail reuses an old rail corridor and connects Corry to the larger, regional Erie to Pittsburgh Trail Network. It's the perfect place for this summer event, but Meyer noted it shines year-round with those on snowshoe and snowmobile clubs, as well as horseback riders, bikers and walkers.

The event will be packed with a 2-mile slow roll, 24-mile ride with BikeErie (starting at 10 a.m.), a "bike rodeo" obstacle course for kids hosted by the Rolling 2 You Mobile Repair, and a wagon ride on the trail. The Rolling 2 You Mobile Repair will also be there to address minor bike repairs on-site, so attendees are encouraged to bring their bikes to the event. There also will be walks and talks about native plants found along the trail, food vendors, raffles of gift baskets and bikes, and information tables from PennDOT, Erie County Planning Department, Erie County Conservation District, Trout Unlimited, and PA Game Commission. All proceeds from the raffles will go to the Erie to Pittsburgh Trail Alliance for use by the Friends of the Erie County Junction Trail.

Meyer said "The Junction" also serves as an artery with which Corry is encouraging development of a greater network of smaller trails, and improving access to quality outdoor recreation opportunities. Happy trails!
