Erie County Averages Nearly 19 New COVID-19 Cases Per Day

Weekly data sees new cases for this week eclipse previous week's spike

The office of Erie County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper reported 17 new positive cases of COVID-19 today. This brings our cumulative total to 1,826 positive cases. There have been 30,897 negative tests in total.

According to the county, there have been 132 new positive cases in the past week (10 more than last week), with an average of nearly 19 cases (18.86) being reported each day.

So far, there have been 1,600 recovered cases, with 21 announced today and 105 this week, for a total of 173 current active cases in Erie County, for an overall increase of 26 this week. 

There have been 53 total Erie County deaths reported by the National Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NEDSS), with one additional death reported this week. 

In the last month, there have been 403 new positive cases, 264 recoveries, and five deaths.

Erie County's cumulative positive case total has more than doubled in more than 10 weeks. The amount of deaths reported has doubled in exactly 10 weeks.

Thurs 10/8/20 - 13 new cases

Fri 10/9/20 - 23 new cases

Sat 10/10/20 - 19 new cases

Sun 10/11/20 - 29 new cases

Mon 10/12/20 - 7 new cases, 1 new death

Tues 10/13/220 - 24 new cases

Wed 10/14/20 - 17 new cases

 

Of the cumulative cases, 56% are female and 44% are male.

 

Breakdown by Race/Ethnicity

65% White residents 

18% African American/Black residents (-1%)

7% Asian residents 

2% Other 

7% Unknown 

Six percent of the cases are Hispanic, of any race; 83% are not Hispanic; and 11% are unknown. 

 

Breakdown by Age

3% are ages 0-4 

2% are ages 5-9 

8% are ages 10-18 

18% are ages 19-24 

35% are ages 25-49 

18% are ages 50-64 (-1% change this week)

16% are ages 65 and older (-1% change week)

Out of the new cases this week, 34% of them are ages 25-49. 

 

State, Local, and National Statistics

Today, Pennsylvania saw 1,276 additional positive cases reported, for a total of 175,922. So far, there have been 8,411 deaths statewide. 2,074,729  patients have tested negative to date. In the last week, Pennsylvania saw 9,370 new cases and 139 deaths.

According to the CDC, the US has a total of 7,835,007 total cases, with 359,745 new cases in the last seven days and 47,459 in the last 24 hours. The total number of deaths in the US is 210,232, with 4,962 reported in the last week and 748 in the last 24 hours.

As for updates in our nearby counties, Crawford County has 359 positive cases (up 27 this week), with three deaths. McKean County has 80 positive cases (up 17) and two deaths. Venango County has 142 positive cases (up 38) and one death. Warren County has 58 total positive cases (up 12) and one death.

Ashtabula County's cumulative total is 692 positive cases (up 12 this week) and 48 deaths (no change). Chautauqua County has a cumulative total of 796 positive cases (up 86) and 13 deaths (up three).
