Ring in the Summer Solstice at Goodell Gardens

Goodell Gardens will be a fine place to linger a while on the evening of the longest day of the year.

Right in line with the 2019 Summer Solstice, the historic homestead's perennial Summer Music Series continues at the lush, lovely old landscape just south of Edinboro with a free-for-all (admission-wise, wise guy) celebration on Friday, June 21.

Longtime Edinboro-area favorites Seann Clark & Friends are the featured performers at the special, extended celebration, and the newly-established Riverside Brewing (Cambridge Springs) and Edinboro's award-winning Cart/Horse Distilling will also be hanging out for the Solstice festivities.

Goodell will be "taking advantage of the longest day of the year, extending the music until 10 p.m.," Goodell Executive Director Amber Wellington said recently, adding that date is the only one with free admission to the public for the ongoing Summer Music Series.

"We'll have lots of good food and drink for sale, and we're going to do some special fundraising activities that evening as well — guided tours of the gardens, special donation collections, and it will be the opening of an art show in Carrie's Cabin," said Wellington, adding that show features the early-era photographic work of Margaret Goodell, one of the sisters (Carrie's the other) who left their estate to become what is now Goodell Gardens & Homestead.

Goodell's Summer Music Series continues bi-weekly with a variety of performances and events scheduled every other Friday through Aug. 23. — Ryan Smith

7 p.m. to 9 p.m. // 221 Waterford Street (Route 6N), Edinboro // More information: goodellgardens.org.
