The Erie Philharmonic Presents Rodgers & Hammerstein in Concert

June 8, 2022 at 2:30 PM
Together, composer Richard Rodgers (left) and lyricist-dramatist Oscar Hammerstein II (right) formed one of the most prolific duos in the history of musical theater.

Sunday, Jun. 12

Who are Rodgers & Hammerstein, you might ask? If you don't recognize the names outright, you're sure to recognize their work. From Oklahoma! to The Sound of Music, the duo is one of the most renowned in the world of musical theater; now the Erie Philharmonic will be bringing their best pieces to life at Erie's own Warner Theatre. Directed by Thomas Brooks and conducted by Daniel Meyer (with artistic coordination provided by Kate Thiem), fans can expect to hear greatest hits not only from the aforementioned productions, but also from Cinderella, The King and I, Carousel, South Pacific, and Flower Drum Song.

In addition to being extremely well-received by audiences and critics alike, the duo managed to garner an astonishing 34 Tony Awards, 15 Academy Awards (via film adaptations), two Pulitzer Prizes, and two Grammy Awards. With a community as rooted in arts as Erie is, this concert offers a wonderful opportunity to highlight our own talented artists through a history of musical theater. While the show is currently sold out, interested parties can contact the Warner Theatre to be added to the waitlist. — Aaron Mook
